Thromboelastography (TEG) Pre-conference Workshop
 

In partnership with THOR 2023, Haemonetics is facilitating a 90-minute TEG guided Haemostasis Management Workshop for THOR registered delegates, led by experienced TEG practitioners from across ANZ. It is aimed at healthcare professionals from trauma, anaesthesia, obstetrics, first responders and any clinicians who are involved in patient 
blood management.

THOR Field Blood Transfusion Workshop by Pat Thompson

This workshop builds on the THOR Field Transfusion online course which will be prerequisite reading for attendance at this workshop. It is the practical application of the course and will review the key elements of field transfusion.  It will focus on the practical application of triggering an Emergency Donor Panel donation, the donation procedure to procure a unit of Warm Fresh Whole Blood and the transfusion of Warm Fresh Whole Blood to an injured casualty in severe traumatic hemorrhagic shock. It will also include troubleshooting adverse events and end points of resuscitation. Workshop attendees can elect to volunteer in the practical components within pairs or observe the demonstration. Due to the compressed timing of the workshop, this will be an introduction only.

Dan Mason 
Dan is BSN in 1986 from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.Masters in Critical Care Nursing with a minor in Education from University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.Critical Care nurse from 1986 to 2007, in areas of CV surgery; Heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant; trauma; and Neurosurgical ICU.United States Air Force from 1989-1996, Captain and Assistant Officer in Charge of CVICU at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio at time of separation from USAF.Clinical Manager of CVICU at Medical City in Dallas, Texas from 2002-2007.TEG Clinical Consultant with Haemonetics Corporation from 2007-2028.Medical Science Liaison for Haemonetics in North America from 2018-present.Publications on viscoelastic testing in cardiology, COVID-19, trauma, and the Point-Of-Care settings. 

James Preuss
James Preuss is a cardiothoracic and liver transplant anaesthetist based at Sir Charles Hospital in Perth Western Australia He and completed his Cardiothoracic fellowship at Barts Heart Centre in London where he still holds an honorary consultant position. His clinical interests in aortic surgery, ECMO and echocardiography. He completed a research degree by thesis at The University of Western Australia and is the deputy director of research at SCGH. His research interests include patterns of coagulopathy in end stage liver failure, optimal transfusion triggers in liver transplant patients, the use of cell salvage technologies in malignancy, novel uses of extracorporeal circulation support, and the diagnostic accuracy of point of care coagulation testing. He has presented his work at national and international conferences and has published in numerous anaesthesia and surgical journals. He has a passion of teaching and holds teaching roles including co-convener for the WA ANZCA Part 2 examination short course and is a committee member for the ANZCA Training Accreditation Committee.
