Fredrik Hammarskjöld

Ryhov County Hospital and Linköping University, Sweden

Associate Professor Fredrik Hammarskjöld is a Swedish anaesthesiologist who has worked with anaesthesia and intensive care since 1993.  His clinical work is shared between the ICU and vascular access. Furthermore, he has performed research, predominately on vascular access and health care associated infections for more than 20 years. Most of the research is performed on infection prevention, catheter related infections, patient safety, and long-term vascular access for cancer patients. Since the pandemic he has also performed several studies on COVID-19.

Fredrik is responsible for several of the Swedish national guidelines on vascular access.

Fredrik is employed by Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. Ryhov County Hospital, Jönköping and is affiliated with the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden.

When he not working in the hospital or doing research Fredrik is a basketball referee and spends time with his family in the archipelago at the west coast of Sweden with different activities on the sea.



Victoria Armenteros-Yeguas, RN

Bioaraba Research Institute, Health Prevention and Promotion area, Vascular Access Care Research Group (GIAV), Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain

Victoria has been a Registered Nurse since 1998 and is dedicated to her profession. In 2005, she became an oncology nurse and in 2012, simultaneously, she took part in the establishment and development of the Intravenous Therapy Team in Araba University Hospital in the Basque Country, Spain.

Currently, Victoria is the Nurse Supervisor of the Intravenous Therapy Team and the Nursing Coordinator for the development of cancer management strategy of the Basque Health Service, Spain.

In the field of education, Victoria teaches at both undergraduate and master levels related to vascular access care in different Universities across Spain.

Victoria a Research Coordinator at Bioaraba Research Institute and is in charge of the health prevention and promotion. Her research topics include:

  • DIVA management
  • MARSI
  • Minimidline and midline catheter

Victoria has had original articles published in the area of chronic patients and vascular access care, PICC and midclavicular catheters clinical results and the PIVC use and care recommendations, among others.
