About the RTSA
The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) is a Technical Society of Engineers Australia and a Technical Group of Engineering New Zealand. Established in 1997, the RTSA exists to advance the interests of the railway industry across Australasia and to support the professionals working within it.As a non-profit organisation, the RTSA promotes collaboration across academic, industrial, commercial, and government sectors, with a focus on the advancement and practical application of railway technology and effective management practices.

Purpose
The RTSA’s activities are centred on providing leadership, strengthening professionalism within the railway sector, and encouraging member engagement in shaping the future of railway technology.


Objective
The RTSA aims to:

• Stimulate active member participation in the development and dissemination of railway technology and management knowledge to support the wider railway industry.

• Facilitate ongoing professional development for members.

• Foster close working relationships among individuals and organisations across the railway sector.

RTSA History

Our Chapters

The RTSA operates through six regional Chapters, each delivering programs and activities that address current industry topics and encourage collaboration. These include:

  • New South Wales Chapter (NSW & ACT)
  • South Australia Chapter (SA & NT)
  • Victoria Chapter (VIC & Tasmania)
  • Queensland Chapter (QLD & Overseas Members)
  • Western Australia Chapter
  • New Zealand Chapter

Each Chapter runs its own program of events, discussions, and meetings—often in partnership with other industry groups—to support knowledge sharing and professional engagement.
