WORKSHOP 5: Advanced Airway Management
Time: 1530 - 1700
Facilitator: Margaret Nicholson
Bedside nurses trained to apply early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are usually the first responders for patients who develop a cardiac arrest in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This modified workshop targets those interested in attending a full day CALS course and aims to describe the differences in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) algorithms and training required to respond safely and effectively to cardiac arrest events in early post cardiac surgical patients.
Facilitators will demonstrate instruments used in Emergency Resternotomy and attendees will be guided in best practice with regard to internal cardiac massage and internal defibrillation. A series of short simulations will allow attendees to rotate through various roles and practice role allocation and the technical skills of resternotomy.

Time: 1100 - 1230
Facilitator: Michael Phillips
Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) devices have become a familiar treatment modality in many ICUs for treatment of patients with AKI and fluid overload. Non-renal extracorporeal applications on these devices are emerging, making them potentially more versatile.
In this workshop, Michael Phillips from Baxter Acute Therapies, covers Extracorporeal CO2 Removal (ECCO2R) for the management of hypercapnia.
WORKSHOP 9: Staff Wellbeing
Time: 1330 - 1500
Facilitators: Mark Aitken & Elle Brown

WORKSHOP 10: PICU Liberation
Time: 1100 - 1230
Facilitators: Alexandra Ferguson and Jane Harnischfeger
This workshop will present the PICUStars Liberation program implemented at QCH. PICUStars Liberation is a bundled care strategy which aims to optimise children's recovery for better outcomes after critical illness. The strategy focuses on maximising patient comfort, early rehabilitation, family involvement and good nutrition to minimise risk of development of critical illness co-morbidities such as delirium, withdrawal and weakness.
